Al and Jan Keranen have been involved in relationship marketing and direct sales with various companies for most of their 29 years of marriage. Many couples enjoy stealing some ‘us’ time from the trappings of work, kids, or maybe a bit of both. For Blue Diamonds Renate and Bob Lundberg, they do one additional thing: they download. “We download every day and we discuss our strategy on everything from training to communication to relationships,” Bob said.

The couple has invested much time, energy, and resources to their business – a stark difference from when they first learned of Univera. Due to a prior less-than-stellar experience in relationship marketing, they did not have any intention of becoming involved, but a desire to support their friends Ron and Jan Boyanovsky in their business left their door open to the possibility.

And then they learned of CSO Stephen Cherniske. After hearing him speak live, they were in. “Stephen’s brilliance, kindness, and commitment to giving his highest and best have come to embody Univera for us,” Renate said. “I fell in love with the products – they completely changed my health, and out of that, I wanted to bring that better quality of life to other people.”

To start, the couple needed to really understand relationship marketing. “At that point, we decided to study this business model and soon learned that although it is frequently misunderstood, when done properly, it can provide a win-win for the Corporation and for Field Associates.”

So the strategy was to look for people experienced in relationship marketing. But most people who signed on, at least in the beginning, had either failed with a previous company or had no relationship marketing experience at all.

“We decided to go to work and train everybody willing to do what it takes,” she said. And rather than focus on destination, the couple zeroed in on process. “We fell in love with the process of making everybody as successful as we could. We strongly believe in training our Associates on everything from product to building their Univera business with confidence.”

At whatever level an Associate enters their Team, the Lundbergs meet people where they are. “We’re not just looking for key leaders – we want everyone who joins to be successful, no matter what ‘success’ means to them. If they want to build a Bronze or Silver business, we give them the same respect and support as we would someone working toward Blue Diamond, and when people feel supported this way, many times they’ll do much more than they originally set out to do.”

They are fortunate to have a Team whose Diamond leaders work in very close collaboration with one another, and that synergistic spirit and respect then trickles down. “Our Diamonds are doing a tremendous job, duplicating what we trained on from the beginning,” she said. “They are confident, strong leaders who now know themselves how to build and run a fast growing Diamond, soon to be Blue Diamond business.”

This strong leadership fosters great loyalty. Renate acknowledges that at this point, they could walk away from their business, and their check would still be there. “But we’d never do that. Our Team is our family and we want to see everyone succeed. There are lots of rank promotions coming up in our business, and we’ll stay by their side and see them through to their success. We will stay true to our promise to remain as engaged as we are right now. Our ultimate goal is to help take Univera global so we will contribute a small part to Bill Lee’s mission and vision to bring the best of nature and science to human kind.”

Having also served on Univera’s Field Leadership Council, Renate experienced firsthand the unshakable commitment of Univera’s Executive Team towards win-win solutions for both Corporate and Field when putting new strategies into place. “This gives us great confidence that we are with the right company who truly cares about us.”

John's respect for the medicinal power of plant extracts came early — his father, David, was co-author of the first phytologic software program for plant classification while at MIT. Richard & Patti Ross

Richard and Patti Ross enjoy a blended family of children ranging from 17 to 25. All the children are very active in academics, sports, photography, and music. Together, this family loves to travel and laugh.

Both Richard and Patti had successful careers prior to becoming Univera Associates. Patti has a background in advertising, art, and publishing. At one point, Patti owned her own desktop publishing business, which she closed to be a stay-at-home mother when her son was born. Richard has been an active entrepreneur in real estate development and the waste management business since 1971. In 1996, when Richard sold his large waste management business, he began a quest to find the perfect business. He had investigated many relationship marketing companies because he liked the business model, and he was intrigued by Univera.

Richard was also skeptical and cautious, so he hired a professional business investigator to make sure the company was sound. The investigator couldn't find any holes in Univera. What he did find was world-class leadership; therefore, the decision to join Univera was easy for Richard and Patti.

Modeling behavior that incorporates the Golden Rule and mentoring those who are willing and able to participate as key leaders in the organization is what Richard and Patti believe are the key elements to developing a strong, solid organization. They have two basic character tests for a candidate with potential leadership: "Would we leave our children with this individual if needed?" and "Do I laugh a lot when around them?"

For Richard and Patti Ross, the bottom line of this business is the mission statement. They are so passionate about it that Patti composed additional lyrics and a melody and recorded it as a song:
